Description

The former counting house and workmen's cottages at Abbeydale Works Museum, originally known as Cottage Row, were built between 1786 and 1793 and are now used as an education centre, café, and house. The building is constructed from coursed squared stone and features stone slate roofs with two gable and a single ridge brick stack. It has quoins and is two storeys high, with a five-window range of glazing bar casements.

On the left side, the counting house has a loft door flanked by two single 2-light casements. Below this, there is a beaded plank door also flanked by two 2-light casements. All openings have stone lintels and sills. To the right, the cottages feature three 3-light casements, with a central board door flanked by single 3-light casements below. There is a similar door to the left and a 4-light casement to the right. The ground floor openings have stone flat arches, and the windows are fitted with plank shutters. The counting house was later repurposed as a crown scythe warehouse.
