Description

This is a schoolhouse, dating to 1736, that has been converted into a house. It is located on School Green Lane, Sheffield. The building is constructed of coursed squared stone, partly rendered, with ashlar dressings and a stone slate roof. It features quoins and a first-floor band. The front gable, facing the street, has two 20th-century two-light casement windows on the upper floor. Below, a central doorway has been blocked, and is flanked by single two-light casement windows with chamfered mullions. All of these openings have stone lintels. Above the blocked doorway is an oval panel surrounded by four keystones, displaying the date 1736 and a list of five benefactors. A mid-20th century stone porch with a parapet and a door is located on the left side of the building. The right return has three two-light casements and a smaller window. On the ground floor, an off-centre glazed door is flanked by single three-light casements. The interior of the building was not inspected.
