Description
Nos 2, 2A, 2B, 2C, and 4, 4A, 4B, and 4C on High Street are a house that has been converted into two shops and offices. They date from the mid to late 18th century and have undergone extensive alterations in the 20th century. The building is constructed of coursed, dressed sandstone and has a Welsh slate roof. It is three stories high with a two-window gabled entrance front. The building features chamfered quoins, although some are partly cemented. The modern shop front includes two earlier cast-iron columns on either side of the door. Each upper floor has two 2-pane sash windows, all set in renewed projecting square-faced surrounds. The gable is rendered and has shaped kneelers and renewed gable copings. On the left side, there is a shop front to the left of the original quoined doorway and a pointed stair window, both with cemented surrounds, along with margin lights in the stair window. There is a renewed brick end stack to the left. An addition to the front right is not of special interest. Despite the alterations, this building remains an important focal point of the village center.
