Description
Low Farmhouse is a farmhouse with origins dating back to the 16th century, with a date of 1676 noted, and it has been altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed from coursed, squared limestone and features a 20th-century pantile roof. It has an L-shaped plan and is two storeys high, with two windows on the first floor and a wing extending to the rear right. The large quoins are a notable feature.
The entrance consists of a 20th-century door, which is flanked on the left by a 20th-century three-light casement window beneath a concreted dripstone, and there are two similar windows on the right. On the first floor, there is a two-light casement window on the left within a former three-light double-chamfered surround with a dripstone, and a similar casement on the right in a former two-light surround. The eaves oversail, and the roof is hipped on the right with an end stack on the left.
On the right return, there is a part-glazed door set in a stone architrave, with another blocked ashlar door surround on the right that has been converted into a window. To the left, there are two double-chamfered windows that have dripstones, although the mullions are no longer present. The first floor features two double-chamfered window surrounds. On the left return, there are two intact single-light windows on the ground and first floors, with the upper window being blind. An oval gable light with a keyed surround bears the date 16 / 76.
Inside, the rear wing contains fragmentary remains of a two-bay timber-framed building that were exposed during renovation work around 1977.
