Description
This barn, located approximately 10 metres behind Elmtree House, dates from the 17th century but was rebuilt in the 18th century. It features internal timber framing, red brick in English garden wall bond, and a pantile roof. The barn is a single storey with three bays. The central bay has large boarded doors that rise to the wallplate, while the left bay has plain walling with two rows of vents. The right bay is obscured by attached outbuildings that are not of special interest. The gable copings are made of ashlar stone. At the rear, there is an opposed waggon entrance flanked by exposed wall posts, and the flanking walls have dentilled brickwork below the eaves.
Inside, there are four wall posts on either side of the central stone-paved threshing floor, with later braces added. A section of midrail is present between the posts on the right. The brick walling is reinforced by piers, and the roof is constructed with principal rafters, using much re-used timber.
