Description
The fountain and urns, located approximately 90 metres to the west of Brodsworth Hall, were constructed between 1866 and 1867 for Charles Thellusson. Made of marble, the fountain is set within an octagonal pool that aligns with the west front of the hall, surrounded by a formal garden featuring large urns at each corner, about 30 metres from the fountain. The pool is rimmed with a moulded ashlar dwarf wall. The central fountain has a moulded base and shaft adorned with carved dolphins, and it features three tiers shaped like scalloped shells, topped with a bird finial that has an upthrust beak. The large freestanding urns have gadrooned bases and broad rims. Historical account books referenced by Mark Girouard indicate a consignment in 1867 that included marble steps, figures, and a fountain vase for the pleasure grounds.
