Description
A group of ten garden statues, dating from 1866 to 1867, is located to the south and east of Brodsworth Hall. These statues, made of marble, were commissioned for Charles Thellusson. Each statue is a separate female figure, set on a square pedestal that features a moulded plinth, plain die, and cornice. The figures are arranged at intervals around the formal gardens of Brodsworth Hall. The statues were commissioned in Italy by Chevalier Casentini, who also provided many marble sculptures for the interior of Brodsworth Hall. Account books referenced by Mark Girouard note a consignment in 1867 that included "marble steps and figures and Fountain vase in Pleasure grounds."
