Description
There are three grave slabs located approximately 20 meters south of the south porch of the Church of All Saints. These slabs date from the early to mid-18th century and are made of sandstone.
The left slab is plain and features simple arched decoration with a winged angel in relief at the center. It commemorates Mary, the wife of Joshua Cudworth of Bargh, who died on 17th August 1717, followed by a poem. It also honors John, the son of Joshua and Mary Cudworth, who died in 1733, and Deborah, the wife of John, who died in 1760.
The middle slab has moulded edges and arched decoration at the top. It is dedicated to Timothy Cudworth of Kexbrough, a blacksmith and son of John Cudworth of Barugh, who died in 1741. It also mentions John Armstrong, a gentleman from the Parish of St Johns Westminster and Quarter Master of the 3rd Regiment of Foot Guards, who died in 1779 at the age of 41.
The right slab has moulded sides and is divided into two halves, each featuring rounded decoration at the top. It commemorates Mathew, the son of Mathew and Hannah Hirst of Kexbrough, who died in 1753 at the age of 10 months, as well as Mathew Hirst of Kexbrough, who died in 1765, and other family members up to 1804.
