Description

This is a pair of raised grave slabs from the early 18th century, located immediately north of the west end of the Parish Rooms in the yard of the Church of All Saints in Canthorne. The slabs are made of sandstone and feature simple line divisions between the inscriptions.

The left slab commemorates Rebekah, the wife of Francis Turton of Barnby Green, who died on 30th August 1703. It includes a short verse and also lists Francis Turton, late of Barnby Green, who died on 6th November 1718 at the age of 84, and another Francis Turton of Barnby Green, who died on 11th April 1746 at the age of 78, followed by another short verse.

The right slab is partially obscured by the left slab and is dedicated to Joseph, son of Francis Turton of Barnby Green, who died on 7th February 1726; William, son of Francis Turton of Barnby Green, who died on 4th January 1709; and Elizabeth, wife of John Turton of Barnby Green, who died in March 1749. This slab also includes a short verse.
