Description
This is a pair of raised grave slabs from the mid-18th century, located immediately north of the Parish Rooms and aligned with the east end of the south chapel of the Church of All Saints. The slabs are made of sandstone and rest on low coursed sandstone bases, featuring a simple edge moulding.
The left slab commemorates Benjamin Turton of Cawthorne, who died on 5th March 1741 at the age of 82, along with his two daughters: Alice, who died on 8th March 1716 at the age of 29, and Martha, who died on 20th December 1699 at the age of 1 year and 9 months.
The right slab is dedicated to Margaret, the wife of Benjamin Turton, who died on 26th January 1741 at the age of 72. It also honors their daughter Martha, who died on 25th February 1741 at the age of 26, and their son Joseph, who died on 13th October 1696 at the age of 1 year and 8 months.
