Description
This milestone, located opposite No. 9 Malt Kiln in Cawthorne, dates from the mid to late 19th century. It is made of stone with a cast-iron triangular front that has a rounded top. The raised letters on the milestone indicate directions and distances:

The Shepley Road Turnpike Trust was established in 1825, and the road was completed in 1845, before being abolished in 1875.
