Description
The barn, located approximately 5 metres north-west of Shore Hall Farmhouse, is a former structure that is now mainly collapsed. It is believed to have a timber frame dating from the 16th century, with stone walls that are likely from the 17th or 18th century, constructed from coursed rubble. The barn originally had four bays, with aisles on both sides and an additional bay to the south, along with outshuts on both sides of the northern two bays. Little of the stone walling remains, although part of the rear (west) wall is still standing, featuring at least two different builds and a central doorway. The barn currently has no roof, and the timber frame is partially collapsed. It formerly had five frames, with aisle posts at the northern end supported by passing braces. The principal posts are braced to tie-beams and arcade plates, and the principal rafter roof trusses include queen struts. While the roof is missing above tie-beam level, all principal posts and braces are still present, but the aisles have mostly collapsed.
