Description

This footbridge, located approximately 600 metres northeast of Cascade Bridge in Cannon Hall Park, was built between 1764 and 1765. It was designed by landscape gardener Richard Woods and constructed by mason John Marsden for John Spencer Stanhope of Cannon Hall. The bridge is made of ashlar and features a shallow segmental arch with slightly projecting voussoirs that create a band. It has a low coping made up of five straight-topped sections, and six radiating ribs form seven panels in the spandrels. The ends of the bridge are splayed and terminate in octagonal piers with domed heads. The wavy iron railings may have been added at a later date.
