Description

Brook House is a house dating from the 17th century, with a mid-19th century wing and restorations from the 19th and 20th centuries. It is built of coursed squared stone and features a stone slate roof. The main part of the house has a short gabled wing at the rear and a gabled 19th-century crosswing to the left. The building is two storeys high. The 17th-century sections have double-chamfered windows, most of which are topped with hoodmoulds. The front of the house includes a 5-light window on the ground floor and a 4-light window on the first floor. The rear wing has an addition at ground floor level, a 3-light window on the first floor, and a single blocked light in the apex. The right gable features a 4-light window on the ground floor, a later doorway, two 2-light windows on the first floor, and a single light in the gable apex. An ornamental ashlar stack is located on the gable. The 19th-century wing is noted as not being of special interest. The house was once the home of the 19th-century local artist Abel Hold. The property was not fully inspected during the re-survey.
