Description

The Robert Martin graveslab is located in the churchyard approximately 1 metre west of the south porch of the Church of St John. This graveslab dates from 1755 and is made of stone. It features a raised design with a well-cut inscription commemorating Robert Martin, the son of Thomas Martin of Moor Hall, a paper maker, who died in 1755. The inscription also mentions Mary, the wife of Thomas, who died in 1759. The edges of the stone are decorated with incised scroll patterns.
