Description

This is a timber-framed farmbuilding, likely with some domestic use, dating from the 16th century. It is located approximately 60 metres south of Houndhill farmhouse. The building features rubble sandstone walls and a stone slate roof, and it is a single storey with four bays. On the north side, there is an open arcade supported by three wall posts set in concrete plinths, with curved braces connecting to the wallplate, and some studs infill the spandrels. The left gable end has been rebuilt and includes a 20th-century horizontal-sliding door.

Inside, the wall posts at the left end have been replaced by brick piers, while the remaining posts feature curved braces that connect to the tie beams of the principal-rafter trusses. One tie beam is cambered, and two have soffit mortices. The principal rafters, which are likely of a later date, support single purlins, and some reused rafters suggest that the original roof was of a common-rafter design. The attached farm buildings are not considered to be of special interest.
