Description
This building is a farm structure located approximately 80 metres east of Tankersley Farmhouse. It dates from the 16th century or early 17th century and has undergone some later walling. The farmbuilding is timber-framed with rubble sandstone and has a sheet asbestos roof. It is a single-storey building with four bays, featuring large quoins. The central two bays are open-fronted and supported by a 20th-century brick pier. The first bay on the left is obscured by an adjoining building that is not of special interest, while the fourth bay has plain walling.
Inside, six wall posts are visible, although the left end posts are missing. There are some braces connecting to the tie beams, and the principal-rafter trusses include curving struts, double purlins, and a diagonally-set ridge. This structure is unusually low for a timber-framed building and was likely originally used as a cowhouse.
