Description
The Birdwell Obelisk is a stone monument dated 1775, commissioned by the Second Earl of Strafford. It is constructed from deeply-coursed, dressed sandstone and features a stepped plinth with an inscription that reads "Wentworth Castle / 3 Miles / 1775." The obelisk has a tall structure topped with a pyramidal point and includes a projecting band.
