Description

This is an early 18th-century farmhouse with a T-shaped plan, located on Chapel Road in Tankersley, near Pilley. The farmhouse is constructed of dressed sandstone with a stone slate roof. The main range is two stories high and originally had two windows on the first floor. It features large quoins. The front of the house has a 20th-century panelled door set within an ashlar surround, above which is a shaped ashlar slab, set beneath a recessed square panel. To either side of the door are mullioned windows with three lights and thin mullions, fitted with renewed casements. A later outbuilding is incorporated into the main roof on the right, with rebuilt external steps leading to a boarded door and casements on both floors. The left end of the range has shaped kneelers and gable copings, and a rebuilt rendered stack; a rebuilt brick stack is found at the right end of the original house.

Inside, a ground-floor room on the right has twin spine beams with run-out stops, and a 19th-century fireplace with an "Elsecar" cast-iron range. Attached barns to the right are not part of the listed building.
