Description
This is a group of three grave slabs located approximately 5 metres south of the south chapel door of the Church of All Saints. The slabs date from the 1680s, around 1716, and around 1740, and are made of sandstone.
The first slab is plain with arched decoration at the top. It commemorates Ann, the wife of Thomas Dixon, who died on 26th February 168?, and also Thomas Dixon, Yeoman, who died on 25th May 1714 at the age of 65 years. Additionally, it mentions Thomas, son of George and Olive Dixon of Clay Hall, Yeoman.
The second slab features simple decoration on the sides and bottom, with arched decoration at the top. It is dedicated to George Dixon of Clay Hall, Yeoman, who died on 16th May 1716 at the age of 41 years and 7 months. A short poem and further dedications follow.
The third slab has a moulded surround and arched decoration at the top. It is in memory of John, the son of John and Ann Dickson of Clay Hall, who died on 26th May 1740 at the age of 10 months. It also lists further sons and daughters: Timothy, who died in 1744 at the age of 6 years, and Ann and Olive Dixon, who died in infancy, as well as Alice, who died in 1751 at the age of 1 year and 7 months.
