Description
Royd Farmhouse is a farmhouse dated 1690, constructed from deeply coursed, dressed stone with a stone slate roof that is covered in bitumen. The building has two storeys with an attic and features seven bays. It has a chamfered plinth and a blocked doorway in bay 5, which has a moulded surround and a deep lintel inscribed with the date "JULY 3 1690". There are two inserted doorways in bays 2 and 3, likely replacing former windows. The ground floor has 2-light double-chamfered windows in bays 1, 4, 6, and 7, with those in bays 1 and 4 altered. A continuous drip moulding on the ground floor rises over the door as a hood. The first floor features 2-light double-chamfered windows, with the central one blocked. The gable copings are hollow-chamfered and sit on cut kneelers, with a ball finial at the right apex. There are two ashlar stacks with cornices, and a lean-to addition at the rear. The left return has a 2-light window on each floor, including one at the gable apex. The interior has not been inspected.
