Description
The Jane Greaves graveslab, located in the churchyard approximately 2 metres east of the chancel door of the Church of St. John, dates from around 1703. This ornamental stone slab features a well-cut inscription that reads, "Here was interred......Jane, wife of John Greaves of Penistone and daughter to John Priest of Snoddenhill...also......John Greaves, died 1719". The slab has an elaborate central panel that includes the date and the initials J.G., along with a heart-shaped scroll in relief at the center. The border of the stone is also carved in relief, adorned with scrolls and vines.
