Description
The Lodge is a house that has been converted into a bank and shop. It dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with some alterations made in the late 18th century. The building is constructed of brick with painted render at the front and features a slate roof.
It stands three storeys high and has three main bays, although there are five windows on the second floor. The facade is flanked by pilaster strips that have channelled rustication. The outer bays contain two-storey tripartite bowed glazing bar sash windows topped with plain cornices. On the left side of the ground floor, there is an additional window featuring a glazing bar sash, which has a stucco lintel with a keystone. The central bay also has a similar window at the first floor level. The second floor windows are sashed but do not have glazing bars. A modillion gutter cornice runs along the top of the facade, and there are lead rainwater hoppers and downpipes on either side. The building has gable chimneys.
The interior has not been inspected, but records from the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England mention an original staircase with turned balusters, square newels, and a moulded handrail.
