Description

This is a late 18th-century house, later used as a shop and office. It has undergone some alterations in the 20th century. The building is constructed of brick, with a slate roof to the main section and plain tile to a left-hand wing. The two-storey, three-bay facade features a one-course brick band at the sill level of the first-floor windows, and a visible joint to the left of the central bay. The windows are glazing bar sashes, with two-storey canted bay windows in the outer bays. A rubbed brick flat arch sits above the central first-floor window. The doorcase has thin, plain pilasters and shaped brackets supporting a shallow dentilled cornice. The door itself has six raised and fielded panels, with a divided six-pane overlight. A dentilled gutter cornice runs along the top of the building, and chimneys rise from coped gables. A two-storey wing is set back to the left, featuring a four-pane sash window on the ground floor, a small casement window on the first floor, and a doorway with a 20th-century timber doorcase and a six-panel door. The interior was not inspected, but historical records indicate the presence of an original staircase with turned balusters and a moulded handrail, along with two original fireplaces on the first floor.
