Description
No. 6 Front Street is a house that has been converted into a café. It dates from the early 18th century, with later 18th-century additions and alterations from the late 19th century. The building is constructed of brick, painted at the front, and features a plain tile roof.
The exterior is two storeys high and has three bays. There is a brick storey band, and the windows are sashed. The entrance door, located in the right-hand bay, has four bolection-moulded sunken panels, a plain rectangular overlight, and a late 19th-century pilaster doorcase with a mutule cornice. A lean-to structure against the right-hand (west) gable wall includes one sashed window. The front wall of this lean-to extends upwards as a screen wall, which adjoins No. 8 on the right and contains a gateway with a boarded door on the right side. A chimney is located on the left-hand gable.
The interior has not been inspected, but records from the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England mention an original staircase with turned balusters and a moulded handrail, two good quality original fireplaces, and a single late 18th-century fireplace.
