Description

This description is for a pair of gates, gate piers, and an overthrow located approximately 100 meters south-west of St Margaret's Church. They were built between 1851 and 1852 and were restored in 1993. The gates were designed by John Walker of the Walker Ironfoundry and are made of cast iron. The gates feature turned railings with conical finials and include bands with a Greek key motif. The openwork gate piers are about 2.5 meters high, rectangular in shape, and consist of diagonal crossed bars and bands of the Greek key design, topped with flat cornice caps. Squat twisted balusters support a flat overthrow that is cast with the words "TO ST MARGARET'S CHURCH."
