Description
The summerhouse, located approximately 60 metres north of No. 19 Heworth Croft in York, is an early 19th-century structure that was remodeled around 1842 when Heworth Croft was built. It is constructed from orange brick in English garden-wall bond and features a slate roof with an external brick stack.
This single-storey building has an octagonal plan and is adorned with pilaster strips at each angle. The entrance consists of glazed and panelled double doors with traceried heads set within a two-centred arch made of white brick. On either side of the entrance, there are windows with two trefoiled lights, each with a stone sill and set in two-centred openings with white brick arches. In the next bay, there is a round-arched radial glazed sash window with a plain brick arch. At the rear, flanking the added stack, are single pointed lights with traceried heads. The building is encircled by a white brick band beneath an embattled parapet that crowns the octagonal roof.
Inside, the summerhouse features a timber ceiling supported by a timber post, and there may be a fireplace behind a later stove.
