Description
15 High Petergate is a shop and offices building dated 1882. It is constructed of orange brick in English garden-wall bond, featuring a timber shopfront and doorcase, and has a slate roof with a brick stack.
The exterior consists of a three-storey, two-bay front, with the left bay being cross-gabled. At the left end, there is a reeded doorcase with angle roundels, likely re-used, and a door made of six raised and fielded panels beneath a flat hood. The right end features a panelled door with a glazed inset, topped by a leaded stained glass overlight that incorporates the date in reverse.
Between the doors, the shopfront has a recessed glazed door flanked by six-pane windows, all beneath an entablature with a triglyph frieze and a dropped moulded segmental pediment supported by carved brackets. There is a dentilled and moulded brick cornice over the ground floor.
On the first floor, the windows are recessed canted bays with four-pane sashes, situated beneath moulded segmental arches with grooved keyblocks. The second floor has paired four-pane sash windows above a broad raised brick band and moulded sillstring; the left pair features brick arches similar to those on the first floor, while the right pair has shaped lintels. The gable contains a glazed oculus, and there are fasciated brick bands at the eaves and gable. The interior has not been inspected.
