Description
The railings and gates at the north-west corner of York Minster serve as the entrance and southern boundary to Dean's Park. They were created in 1839 and repositioned in 1863 by the Walker Foundry. The gates, gate piers, and railings are made of cast iron, complemented by a chamfered stone wall. The railings are diagonally set with a square section, featuring tapered tips and turned standards topped with urn finials, all raised on a low wall. The gates have similar railings, reinforced by arched braces. The carriage gate piers are octagonal with trefoil-headed panelled sides, topped with tapering lamp standards that have cross bars, all resting on stepped acanthus moulded bases. Square tapered lanterns with antefixae and acorn finials are supported by scrolled brackets.
