Description
No. 14 Shambles is a house that is now part of a restaurant. It dates from the early 19th century and incorporates elements of an earlier structure, with some alterations and an extension made in the 20th century. The building is timber-framed and fronted with orange-brown brick laid in Flemish bond, featuring a timber shop window and a brick stack on a tiled roof.
The exterior has two storeys and an attic, with a one-window front. The shopfront includes a glazed and panelled door alongside a three-light transomed window. On the first floor, there is a 16-pane sash window with a painted sill and a painted channelled wedge lintel. The attic features a flat-topped dormer with a two-light casement window.
Inside, the ground floor rooms are fitted with 20th-century incised panelling. The timber frame has been significantly altered, revealing exposed joists and a stud partition wall.
