Description
A terrace of four houses at 26-32 Clifton, built between 1836 and 1840, and later altered to become flats and guest houses. The houses are constructed of brick with stone and painted stone dressings, and have slate roofs. They are three storeys high with attics and basements. Each house has three bays. The windows have rusticated lintels and are glazing bar sashes, with the exception of the ground floor windows at numbers 26 and 32, which lack glazing bars; the right-hand second-floor window at number 26, which has lost some of its glazing bars; and the two right-hand second-floor windows at number 28, which are casements. Each house has two flat-roofed attic dormers, except for number 32 which has one. Each house features a doorway in its left-hand bay, featuring a Tuscan pilaster doorcase and a rectangular overlight. Numbers 26 and 30 have overlights with margin panes, and all doors have four panels, except the glazed door at number 26. External stone steps are present at each house. A heavy, moulded gutter cornice runs along the top, and ridge chimneys are located on gables and between the houses. The interior remains uninspected. This property holds group value.
