Description

The Burton Stone Inn is a public house built in 1896 on the site of an earlier inn, designed by architect W.H. Brierley. The building is constructed of brick, featuring painted render on the first floor and stone dressings, topped with a plain tile roof.

The exterior has a symmetrical facade, which includes two six-sided, two-storey bay windows with flat roofs. The windows are leaded casements, with each side of the bays divided into two tall lights. In the center of the facade, between the bay windows, there is a two-light casement window on the first floor above a doorway that has a moulded limestone surround with a Tudor arch. There are chimneys on both the left and right sides of the building. The right-hand return wall features a two-storey, four-sided bay window under a gable.

Although the interior was not inspected, there are subsidiary features that include a curved low stone wall with stone coping and square piers topped with ball finials, which is attached to the front of the inn. Corner railings enclose The Burton Stone with iron gates beyond.
