Description
Holgate Terrace (part) is a group of four houses built between 1846 and 1851, forming part of a larger terrace on Holgate Road, York. The houses are constructed of brick with painted stone dressings, and have slate roofs. They are three storeys high with cellars, and No.116 has an attic window. Each house has two bays and features a canted bay window on the ground floor to the left, with a painted base concealing a cellar window; the bay window to Nos. 116 and 118 lacks glazing bars. The first and second floor windows consist of upper sliding sashes which are smaller than the lower ones. A sill band runs across the first floor windows. No.116 features a 20th-century flat-roofed dormer. The doorcases are flanked by pilasters with sunken panels and panelled reveals, with overlights featuring a single vertical division. Each door is panelled with two tall round-headed panels. Chimneys with truncated caps are located in front of the ridge between Nos. 112 and 114 and between Nos. 116 and 118. The interior of the houses has not been inspected. These houses contribute to the group value of the terrace.
