Description

Nos. 15-18 on Church Street are shops and offices built between 1836 and 1839, featuring late 19th century and 20th century shopfronts. The building is constructed from orange-grey mottled brick in Flemish bond, with No. 18 painted. The shopfronts are partly timber and partly painted cast-iron, topped with a moulded timber cornice supported by shaped brackets, leading to a hipped slate roof with brick stacks.

The exterior has a four-storey front with four bays facing Church Street and three bays on the Patrick Pool side, which includes a canted corner bay. The Church Street shopfront features three- and four-light windows on either side of glazed and panelled double doors. On the first floor, there is an inserted six-light display window framed by panelled pilasters beneath a moulded cornice, with a stone sill and Corinthian colonnette mullions. The remaining windows are 12-pane sashes with narrow sills and flat arches, except for a one-pane sash on the first floor of No. 18.

The Patrick Pool shopfront, which extends into the end bay of Church Street, includes the entrance to No. 18. It has a glazed and panelled shop door set back between canted plate glass windows with colonnette mullions, beneath a frieze and moulded cornice supported by fluted console brackets, with a terminal gablet at the right end. An upstairs access door is framed by sunk panel pilasters with panelled reveals on the right. The first-floor windows are one-pane sashes, while the second and third floors feature four-pane sashes. The corner bay windows match those on the Patrick Pool front. The building has square section rainwater goods attached with rosette clamps, and an ornate hopper is positioned to the right of the centre bay on the Patrick Pool front. The interior has not been inspected.
