Description
No. 6 Newgate is a house located in York, originally built in the 14th century and extensively rebuilt around 1880 after a fire, while retaining the ground floor from the 14th century. It underwent further rebuilding and restoration in 1963. The ground floor is made of squared magnesian limestone, while the upper floors are constructed of orange brick in stretcher bond, topped with a pantile roof.
The exterior features three storeys with a one-window front. The entrance is located on the left side, facing Patrick Pool. The ground floor has a square-headed window with two shouldered lights set in an ovolo-moulded reveal, beneath a defaced hoodmould. The first and second floors each have windows that are 4-pane sashes with narrow sills and flat arches made of brick. On the left side, there is a three-storey gable wall with a one-window design. The ground floor has glazed double doors set in a glazed and panelled screen, while the first and second floors feature tripartite windows with 4-pane centre sashes. The interior has not been inspected.
