Description

The Dryad sculpture, created by Austin Wright between 1983 and 1984, is a public artwork located at the University of York. Made from cast and welded aluminium, the sculpture measures 2.4 meters long, 1.4 meters wide, and 1.5 meters high. It features a double ring connected to an arching, flowing horizontal form, resembling a reclining figure with a ring-like head and extended wings. The surface of the aluminium is smooth at the head, while the body showcases a variety of textures. The sculpture is mounted on a rendered rectangular plinth with a stainless steel top and a concrete base, situated next to a rectangular pool and adjacent to the yews in the topiary garden beside Heslington Hall.
