Description

The gazebo at Heslington Hall, located approximately 45 metres south-west of the house, is an early 18th-century structure with later additions and alterations. It is built from pinkish-brown brick, featuring red brick and ashlar dressings, and has a cast-iron baluster rail and a red plain tile roof. The gazebo is square in plan, two storeys high, with a single bay and a single-storey extension to the right. It has red brick quoins and a round pedestrian arch beneath a flight of steps, which is adorned with alternate barleytwist and stick balusters. The entrance on the first floor consists of a part-glazed 20th-century door with an overlight that includes glazing bars. The jambs are quoined in red brick and sit under a flat arch made of red rubbed brick, topped with a stepped ashlar keystone. There is a stepped five-course band, a low parapet, and an ashlar cornice. The roof is hipped and features an ashlar ball finial. The extension to the right has an elliptical-arched opening on the side that contains a seat. Inside, there is a Rococo fireplace decorated with medallions, ribbons, and festoons.
