Description
The covered walkway, built between 1966 and 1968 by Robert Matthew, Johnson-Marshall and Partners, connects the former Langwith College to Central Hall and Vanbrugh College at the University of York. It is approximately 181 meters long, with a 12-meter section that branches off southwards to Central Hall.
This pergola-like structure features a flat timber canopied roof that includes a central aluminium duct for services, supported by slender steel columns. The roof is covered in asphalt, and the underside of the canopy and services are concealed by later cladding that incorporates integral spotlights. The walkway's roof has stepped sections, including the entire portion leading to Central Hall.
