Description
This is a terrace of four houses, now used as offices, built around 1840 with later alterations. The structure is made of pink-cream mottled brick laid in Flemish bond, featuring painted stone sills and a sill band. A timber cornice incorporates rainwater goods with fluted bowl hoppers, and there are brick stacks on a slate roof that is hipped at the corner.
The building has three storeys and an attic, with six unequal bays, including a curved corner bay. The first and second floors are highlighted by giant pilasters that support a moulded cornice, which projects forward over the pilaster heads. A 20th-century door has been inserted in the corner bay, while the right end bay features a doorcase with a door of six raised and fielded panels beneath a radial fanlight. The ground floor windows are 20th-century tripartite sashes.
On the first floor, there is a mullion and transom window with two 8-pane curved casement lights in the corner bay, and in the right end bay, two unequal 15-pane sashes remain. The other windows on the first and second floors are 12-pane sashes, and the attic features 2-light dormers. All windows have flat arches, with a sill band for those on the first floor and sills for those on the second floor. Notably, to the left of the first-floor window on the Colliergate front, a bracket for overhead trolley bus wire can still be seen. The interiors were not inspected.
