Description

No. 17 Bishophill Senior is a house dating from the mid-18th century, with an extension added in the early 19th century and restoration completed in 1985. It was built for William Carr and features variegated pink brick in Flemish bond, a painted doorcase, stone copings, and a brick stack on a pantile roof.

The house is two storeys high with an attic and has a one-window front, gable end facing the street. On the left side, there is a four-panel door with a divided overlight set in a plain doorcase that includes pilasters, shaped imposts, and a modillion cornice hood. To the right, a tripartite window has a squat 12-pane centre sash beneath a timber lintel. The first and attic floors also feature squat 12-pane sashes with segmental arches. All windows have renewed sills, and there are raised bands at the levels of the first and attic floors.

The interior has not been inspected, but records from the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England mention an original staircase with turned balusters, square newels, and a moulded handrail.
