Description

Northlands Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around 1770, which was remodelled with a new front added in the early 19th century. It features late 19th to early 20th century bay windows and a porch. The front is constructed of squared limestone, while the sides and rear are made of coursed rubble, with brick dressings and stacks. The rear section has a pantile roof, and the front is covered with slates. The building has a double-depth plan, with a central entrance hall and a kitchen extension at the rear. It is two storeys high and has three symmetrical bays. The exterior includes stucco quoins and a projecting Tuscan columned porch with a moulded cornice and a flat hood over a six-panelled door, which is topped by a three-pane overlight in an architrave. There are ornate canted bay windows with sash windows on either side, and the first floor features 16-pane flush sashes with stucco flat arches and cills. The eaves cornice is wooden and modillioned. The roof is double-span with tumbled-in brick at the gables, stone coping, and shaped kneelers at the front. There are end stacks. Inside, the farmhouse has an open well staircase with a ramped and wreathed handrail and plain balusters, along with moulded ceiling cornices and panelled doors in architraves at the front.
