Description

No 7 North Street is a house from the early to mid-19th century, constructed from red brick with stone dressings and topped with a concrete tile roof. The building has an L-shaped layout, featuring a central entrance hall and a rear right wing. It stands two storeys tall with three symmetrical bays.

The entrance is accessed by two stone steps with moulded nosings, leading to an Ionic doorcase that includes pilasters and an entablature with a plain frieze, moulded cornice, and blocking course. The door is a 20th-century part-glazed design. The ground floor has unequal 15-pane sash windows with architraves set in reveals, supported by sills beneath cambered wedge lintels that are channelled and keyed. The first floor features 12-pane sash windows in similar surrounds. The building has a wooden modillion eaves cornice, although the gutter has been replaced in the 20th century. The gables are stone-coped, and the end stacks have been rebuilt with cornices in the 20th century.

Inside, there is a single-flight staircase with a moulded handrail, plain balusters, an octagonal newel post, and profiled cheek pieces. The left drawing room on the ground floor includes a moulded dado rail and a chimney-piece with detached columns supporting an entablature with dosserets. The plasterwork details are notable, with an entrance hall ceiling featuring an acanthus leaf centre-piece, a moulded cornice, and a frieze adorned with rosettes. The upper stair hall has a modillioned cornice, and the ground floor left room displays a foliate cornice and a large ornate centre-piece on the ceiling.
