Description
No 14 is a house located on Saint John's Street, dating from the mid-18th century, with early 19th-century windows and a later 19th-century rear wing. It is constructed of colour-washed brick in an irregular bond and features a pantile roof. The house has a central hallway entry and an additional cross wing at the rear. It stands two storeys tall and has three bays. The building has a plinth and a four-panel door with an overlight, set within a doorcase that has panelled jambs and reveals, along with large acanthus consoles supporting dosserets, a panelled frieze, and a cornice. On the ground floor, there are flanking tripartite sash windows with glazing bars beneath flat brick arches. The first floor features a 16-pane sash window flanked by tripartite sashes, all with stone sills. The eaves are stepped, with sprocketed eaves and a steeply-pitched roof. The original stacks have been removed. Inside, there is a deeply chamfered ceiling beam in the hall, a closed-string staircase with column-on-vase balusters and square newels, and many cupboards with three-panel doors that have H-L hinges.
