Description
No 28 High Bondgate is a house dating from the late 18th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. The exterior is finished in stucco, featuring a painted rendered plinth and ashlar dressings. The roof is made of pantiles, with stone gable coping and brick chimney stacks.
The building is two storeys tall and has one window. Access is via three stone steps leading to a four-panel door, which has a plain overlight and is set within a doorcase that includes pilasters and an entablature. To the right, there is a full-height canted bay window with 20th-century wooden sashes, projecting painted stone cills, plain pilasters, and a fascia and entablature above, the upper section featuring fascia brackets. The eaves gutter is supported by iron brackets, and the roof has gable copings resting on moulded kneelers. The right chimney has both round and octagonal yellow pots.
Inside, the house retains a fine wooden staircase with two turned balusters per tread, a ramped and moulded handrail, and a curved end to the turned newel. The upper floor features original shutters, doors, and doorcases. The original plan form and roof structure are preserved, along with some decorative plasterwork and doorcases on the ground floor.
