Description

Two mid-18th century houses, 4 and 6 High Bondgate, stand on the north side of the street in Bishop Auckland. The houses are built with incised stucco, feature painted rusticated quoins, and have ashlar dressings. They have a Welsh slate roof with stone gable copings and brick chimneys, one of which is painted. The buildings are three storeys high and each has two windows. The central doors have been renewed as a pair, and the windows are plain renewed sashes with painted projecting stone sills. The roof has a right-hand gable coping resting on moulded kneelers, and a projecting right-hand chimney with a painted stone cornice. A brick left-hand chimney was raised in the 19th century. The interior was not inspected but is said to contain original features. The buildings were derelict when surveyed in 1991.
