Description
Coopers Public House is a building located in Bishop Auckland, originally constructed in the late 18th century, with a bar front added in the late 19th century. The structure features painted Flemish-bond brick with ashlar dressings and a wooden bar front, although the roof is not visible. It stands three storeys tall and has three windows. The bar front is designed in a Gothic style and includes renewed glazing. There are wide double doors with an overlight on the right side, and the front is divided into four bays by partly-fluted pilasters, which have shouldered heads above plain lights over panels. The bar front also features a rope-moulded architrave, a plain fascia, and a cornice. The upper floors have three bowed projections that rest on the cornice, with bowed sills and lintels for the windows. The two left bays have renewed flat glazing, while the right bay has curved sashes with fine glazing bars. The central window on the first floor has a cracked sill and lintel. Late 20th-century light fittings in a 19th-century style are attached to the bar front. At the time of the survey in 1991, the upper floors were derelict.
