Description

No. 1 Market Place is an early 19th-century house that has been adapted into a late 19th-century shop, with a part of it converted into a department store in the mid-20th century. The building stands three storeys high and features two windows. It is finished in incised stucco and has a Welsh slate roof. The ground floor contains a 20th-century shop front, which may be hiding some early 20th-century details. The upper floors are characterized by nine-pane lights with opening transoms set in plain reveals. The building also has side giant pilasters, an eaves gutter cornice, and a blocking course. It is included in the listing for its group value.
