Description

This is a house dating to around 1880, located on the north side of High Bondgate in Bishop Auckland. It is constructed of painted incised stucco with rusticated quoins and ashlar dressings, topped with a Welsh slate roof and brick chimneys. The design is in the Gothic Revival style, with three storeys and three windows. Steps lead to a central panelled front door, set within a decorative doorcase featuring a prominent hood supported by carved brackets and shafts. To the right, a straight-pointed arch now contains double panelled doors, replacing a bay window that was previously recorded. A four-pane sash window is set within a canted bay window to the left, echoing the style of the doorcase. Matching four-pane sashes are found on the first floor, with bracketed projecting sills and segmental-arched lintels, and on the second floor, with similar sills and roll-moulded, shouldered lintels. The roof features mid-slope brick chimneys.
