Description
Thatched Cottage is a house located on Paul Lane in Appleby, dating from the early to mid-18th century, with later additions and a 20th-century re-roofing. The building is constructed from coursed limestone rubble with brick dressings and stacks, and it is colour-washed. It features a thatched roof and has a two-room central-entrance plan, with later outshuts added to the right and rear. The cottage is a single storey with an attic and has two windows. A 20th-century open porch supported by a pair of timber posts leads to a half-glazed door, with plate-glass sliding sashes set beneath segmental brick arches. There are also a pair of raking dormers with 12-pane sliding sashes and a swept roof with decorative ridge capping. The ends of the building have stacks. Inside, the cottage features beamed ceilings.
