Description
16 and 17 Bigby Street are two houses built around 1830. They are two storeys high and constructed of stucco, topped with hipped roofs made of Welsh slate and pantiles. The buildings feature a wide moulded eaves cornice. Each house has four windows on the upper floor, all with moulded stucco surrounds and hung sashes that include glazing bars. The ground floor has two windows and doorways arranged alternately, with the windows having moulded surrounds and the doorways featuring wider surrounds with carved panels and cornices supported by console brackets. The ground floor doorways have plain pilasters and cornices on consoles, with doors made up of six fielded panels and rectangular fanlights above. The elevation facing Cross Street has two similar windows, one of which is covered. The rear wing of the building is two storeys high with three windows, also featuring hung sashes with glazing bars. Attached to the rear wing of No 16 is a former stable block that includes a carriage archway. Nos 16 to 25 Bigby Street form a cohesive group.
